Assessing the Training and Research Environment for Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Immunology in Radiation Oncology.

To assess the perception of radiation oncology training and research opportunities in the field of genomics, bioinformatics, and immunology.A 13-item electronic survey sent to 101 radiation oncology department chair and administrator. An electronic survey of 30 separate items sent to 132 members of the American Society for Radiation Oncology Science Council as well as the 565 member Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology.

Survey responses were collected, and the results were analyzed using descriptive statistics.Twenty-six department chairs and 91 respondents are generally delivered responses. Among the general respondents, 69% were current trainees and 31% have completed training.

The majority of respondents (92%) were affiliated with academic / university’s main campus. About half of the respondents (43% to 53%) reported no prior formal training in bioinformatics, genomics, or immunology. More than half of the seats departments (54% to 58%) and general respondents (57% to 63%) think that the current training opportunities in areas that are actually or sufficient. The majority of respondents (53% to 65%) think that additional training in these areas will provide an opportunity for career advancement, and 80% could identify the current research project or a future that additional training in this field will enable them to pursue.

More than half of the respondents expressed an interest in attending formal training courses, the department chair and the majority (22 of 26 [85%]) reported that they probably or definitely would send students or faculty members for formal training course.

Among radiation oncologists surveyed, there is a shortage the perceived current training opportunities in bioinformatics, genomics and immunology. The majority of respondents reported interest in acquiring additional training in these areas and believe that the training will provide an opportunity for career advancement.

DDB2 Antibody

EUR 356.15
Description: DNA damage-binding protein 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DDB2 gene. This gene encodes a protein that is necessary for the repair of ultraviolet light-damaged DNA. This protein is the smaller subunit of a heterodimeric protein complex that participates in nucleotide excision repair, and this complex mediates the ubiquitylation of histones H3 and H4, which facilitates the cellular response to DNA damage. And this subunit appears to be required for DNA binding. Mutations in this gene cause xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group E, a recessive disease that is characterized by an increased sensitivity to UV light and a high predisposition for skin cancer development, in some cases accompanied by neurological abnormalities. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
